On Sunday, the streets of New Amsterdam came alive with an explosion of color, rhythm and Guyanese pride as the much-anticipated 2026 Region Six Mashramani Float Parade drew enthusiastic crowds from near and far.

The festivities kicked off with a lively procession of floats departing from Tacama Turn, winding their way along Main Street, and showcasing the best of Berbice’s creativity and cultural expression. Spectators lined the parade route, cheering as masquerade bands, dancers, and musical ensembles brought the region’s vibrant heritage to life.
Among the standout participants was the Ministry of Labour Mash Band, which turned heads with a dazzling display of color, music and national pride. In full celebration mode, the team honoured Guyana’s rich cultural tapestry and the spirit of One Guyana as they hit the road, eliciting applause and festive energy from onlookers.
The parade was part of the wider Mashramani 2026 celebrations marking Guyana’s Republic anniversary, a festival that commemorates the country’s transition to a republic and celebrates unity, creativity and national identity. Mashramani is known for its spectacular float parades, masquerade bands, and lively music that reflects the nation’s diverse cultural roots.
Government ministries and agencies, including cultural and civic groups, also took part in the festivities, contributing to the impressive lineup of costume and float displays that added flair to Berbice’s celebration of heritage and community.
